How does a country got its name

Source: Wikipedia

For 1517 the Spaniards had imposed on Cuba so much that they were planning further conquests. Hernandez de Cordova, the great estates in Cuba, called his own sailing, with several ships westward. After a few days he came upon a beautiful country, which had previously not enter alien. A boat was exposed, Indians and soon came to the shore. When she asked how hot the country, they said, "Yu ca tan" - which meant in their language, "I do not understand you" As the Spaniards assumed that this was the native name of the country, it spread in the civilized world. When they later realized the error, it had been so accustomed to call the land of Yucatan, that the name remained to this day.
